A FINE LOUIS XVI ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH MINIATURES
by Jean-Joseph Barrière (fl. 1763-1793), marked, Paris, 1777/1778, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache 1774-1780, the flange struck with inventory number 72, later struck with the French third standard mark for gold 1838-1919 and the Dutch post-1955 mark for 18-carat gold of foreign origin, the miniatures in the manner of Louis-Gabriel Moreau (1740-1806)
Rectangular box with rounded corners, the cover, four sides and base inset with glazed gouache on paper miniatures finely painted with rural views against romantic landscapes, the gold cagework mounts chased with ovolos, quatrefoils and leaves enamelled in translucent red, green and opalescent pink on a sablé ground with rosettes in the corner, the inside gold-lined
