AN ATTIC BLACK-FIGURED COLUMN-KRATER
Attributed to the Leagros Group, Circa 510-500 B.C.
The obverse with Dionysos in the center, clad in a chiton and himation, a red wreath in his hair, his beard with red spots, raising a kantharos in his left hand, holding grape vines in his right, walking right but looking left, a goat standing behind him, its turned-back head partly obscured by Dionysos' himation, with a pair of dancing maenads to his right and left, each wearing a chiton and himation, red fillets in their hair, and a pair of bearded satyrs, the satyr to the left also with a red spotted beard, a band of dotted lotus buds on the neck; the reverse nearly identical except that the satyr to the left has been omitted and Dionysos' beard has a red outline rather than spots; the scenes framed with ivy on either side and a band of tongues above, with ivy on the side of the rim, dotted lotus bud chain on the upper surface of the rim, and palmettes on the handle-plates
