'Green Ted', a German teddy bear
with green mohair, clear and black glass eyes with remains of brown painted backs, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, 'slotted-in' ears, swivel head, jointed limbs with felt pads and knitted outfit --15½in. (39.5cm.) high, circa 1922, woven 'PETER CODE' school name tag on heel of left foot (faded, pads recovered and stuffing shifted), a studio photograph of Peter as a toddler holding a ball and a photograph of Peter in RCAF uniform (3)
Provenance
Green Ted was the childhood bear of Peter Bryson Code who was born in Ottawa on the 19th of February 1922. During the 2nd World War he became a Flying Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Sadly, his plane was lost whilst on patrol over the north west approaches off the Hebrides, Scotland in May 1943 when he was only 21. Subsequently, Green Ted was looked after by Peter's sister and is looking for a new loving home.
