細節
Bagi
An extremely rare Steiff girl teddy bear with light golden mohair, black boot button eyes, pronounced clipped muzzle, black stitched horizontal shield shaped nose, mouth and four claws, swivel head, jointed elongated limbs with felt pad, hump, inoperative side squeaker and original blue felt jacket and skirt with stitched white trim, pocket and ridged brass buttons --13¾in. (35cm.) high, 1908-1911 (missing hat and one button, some fading to jacket front, skirt elastic needs replacing and a small stain to left hand paw pad)
來源
Bagi was the childhood bear of Armand D. Fries of St. Louis, Missouri U.S.A. He was born on the 25th Feburary 1896, which would mean Bagi was given to him when he was twelve or thirteen. At this age, he was probably getting a bit old for a teddy bear, particularly a girl bear. It is possible that the skirt was removed so Bagi became a he-bear; hence the difference in colour of the front of the skirt and jacket. Sadly, Dr. Armand D. Fries died in 1985 so we will never know.

Bagi was issued in a series produced by Steiff from 1908 to 1917. These bears, all dressed, were conceived for promotional postcards that Steiff printed around 1908.

These bears comprised of 'Babad', wearing knitted swimwear, 'Babo', a boy dressed in felt trousers and a jacket, 'Baho', a boy dressed in dungarees, 'Basi' and 'Basa', a boy and girl dressed in sailor's suits, 'Bastro', a boy dressed in knitted suit, 'Baru', girls dressed in traditional Russian costumes and last of all 'Bagi', dressed in felt skirt and jacket.

Only a few of these bears have ever been discovered so far, one Babo and one Bastro. It is believed that Bagi is the only known female example to be found.

Christie's would like to thank Margarete Steiff GmbH for allowing us to reproduce the original 1908 postcards, which are NOT included with the lot.
