One signed Hogyoku, Edo-Meiji Period (The First Early 18th Century, the Others Mid-Late 19th Century)
All of carved, stained and incised ivory, the first in the form of Hotei seated with his sack and holding a fan, the himotoshi formed by a large hole in the base connecting with one in the back; the second in the form of a kneeling man who has just failed to use a masu [rice-measure] to catch a rat which leaps up onto his back, the himotoshi formed by a hole in the masu; the third in the form of a giant seated figure and two diminutive attendants carrying a huge tobacco-pouch on a pole, the himotoshi formed by a large and a small hole underneath, signed underneath in incised and stained characters Hogyoku; the fourth in the form of Hotei and two karako, the himotoshi formed by two holes underneath, signed with an indecipherable mark
