Unsigned, Attributed to Naoe Shizu, Nanbokucho-Muromachi period (14th century)
Blade honzukuri, iorimune, shallow torii-zori with chu-kissaki, forging pattern mokume with masame, tempered edge gunome midare with togari-ba of nioi, slight Jizo-boshi, carvings of bo-hi with soe-hi, marudome, and bonji, tang o-suriage with four holes, file marks kiri, in shirasaya inscribed by Sato Kanzan, nagasa 26 13/16in. (68.1cm.), in black lacquer scabbard, the hilt bound in purple silk, pair of shakudo menuki of peonies, shakudo fuchi-kashira of bamboo basket design with ivy in gilt, the iron tsuba pierced with namako-sukashi and hanabishi crests, overall length 37 3/8in. (95cm.)
