Connected to the group of putti offering an apple to Venus to the left of the lost painting of Amour offrant une pomme à Vénus (A. Ananoff, op.cit, 1976, I, no. 269). Another version of the composition is in the Wallace Collection, London, J. Ingamells, The Wallace Collection, Catalogue of Picture, III, French before 1815, London, 1989, no. P.274. The composition was commissioned by the Prince de Conti in 1744 along with a pendant on The Judgement of Paris. Both pictures appeared in the Sireul sale in 1781 and are now lost. The compositions are known through two miniatures by Jacques Charlier in the Wallace Collection; the one that is after the original painting to which this painting is related is catalogued by J. Ingamells, The Wallace Collection, Catalogue of Picture, III, French before 1815, London, 1989, no. P274. These reductions were mentioned in the Sireul catalogue as testimony to Conti's appreciation of the pictures: 'Ces deux sujets offrent une idée des compositions ingénieuses de M. Boucher. Ils ont appartenu à S.A.S. Mgr le Prince de Conti, à qui ils plaisaient tant, qu'il les fit répéter en petit par M. Charlier'.
