with a lacquered-brass plaque on the case lid for SIKES HYDROMETER W.R. LOFTUS LTD LONDON .W., the maroon plush and silk-lined fitted mahogany case -- 13.9cm. (5½in.) wide

The brass hydrometer has a scale for specific gravity 0-10 and is stamped on the side W.R. LOFTUS LTD LONDON .W. There are ten numbered brass weights, each further stamped 1176, a lipped glass beaker, a small brass-bound magnifier, and an ivory-mounted thermometer. The thermometer is stamped J LONG 43 EASTCHEAP LONDON and bears a scale of 27-100.
