signed Negretti & Zambra, London., on a turned oak base, in a fitted oak carrying case -- 28.9cm. (11 3/8in.) high
See Colour Illustration
The instrument is constructed between two oxidised-brass uprights. At the top is an attachment with a yellow glass eyepiece and a prism, over a sprung specimen slide holder. Beneath this pivots a rectangular oxidised-brass case containing several pieces of glass pressed together, visible through large oval aperture windows. Below this is a circular stage with a wide glass centre with a brass pointer to read off a circumference degree scale in four quadrants. Near the bottom is a swiveling mirror in a similar rectangular casing. Included in the case are: a large mahogany-framed piece of misted glass (cracked) on two table-standing feet; four various-sized aperture discs; four various thick pieces of glass; a thick wooden specimen slider containing a clear specimen and inscribed [?]Armacronite; two spare eyepieces; and two holders for the pieces of glass, one with a wooden handle, and the other with a screw clamp. The case is stained and has a brass carrying handle (door detached).
