A 19th-Century lacquered-brass binocular microscope,
signed on the foot J.B. Dancer, Optician, No348 Manchester, in a mahogany carrying case -- 45cm. (17¾in.) high

The binocular body-tube has rack and pinion adjusment to the eyepieces, a Wenham prism, and rack and pinion focusing with micrometer fine adjustment. It is held on a curved limb which also holds the mechanical stage, substage condensor, and plano concave mirror. The limb tilts between two thin brass columns from a circular platform on the Y-shaped foot. Accessories include: three eyepieces; Dancer ½, ¼ and 2in. objectives; stage forceps; and several amateur slide preparations. The (associated) case has eight (of ten) drawers, a brass carrying handle and the remains of a Dancer trade label in the door (draw mounting detached).
