A well engineered scale model of a Galloway non-dead centre engine of circa 1838,
built by J.F. Bowman with brass bound wood lagged cylinders 2inch bore x 2¼inch stroke, ontward facing truncated 'D' valves operated by eccentrics with braced rods, studded stuffing boxes, crossheads running in cylinderhead mounted vertical guides with flat braced connecting rods, 'V' coupling rod to centrally mounted crankshaft mounted in a cylinder support framework, the outboard bearings mounted on two tapered columns. Further details include gear driven governor with dummy linkage and air pump operated by levers and links actuated by the connecting rods, and spoked flywheel, finished in green and polished brightwork and mounted on a metal bed on polished aluminium floor with wood surround -- 30.5 x 47cm. (12 x 18½in.)
