A GERMAN SABRE (GROSSE MESSER)
In the style of the early 16th Century
With long single-edged fullered blade back-edged towards the point, and struck on one face with groups of three punched dots, the iron hilt comprising vertically recurved quillons, the front one forming the knuckle-guard, oval side-ring and deep flat beaked pommel, forming the upper part of the grip, engraved on one face with a defaced coat-of-arms and the initials 'I P', and extending into a cowhorn lower grip
