A GERMAN STEEL-HILTED SMALL-SWORD
Circa 1760-70
With tapering blade of hollow triangular section etched and gilt at the forte with conventional foliage against a blued ground and gilt panels containing trophies of spears, the hilt chiselled in relief against a gilt fish-roe ground (slight wear) with cartouches containing trophies relating to war, hunting, agriculture, music, science etc., the wooden grip bound with twisted silver and copper wire and steel ribbon, in its original painted vellum-covered scabbard with steel chape and centre- and mouth-locket, the latter each carrying suspension-rings, and chiselled and gilt with rococo scrolls, on the mouth-locket framing the pointillé signature 'Koll A Zelle'
