A SCOTTISH BASKET-HILTED BROADSWORD
First half of the 18th Century
With earlier very broad blade with central fuller on each face of the forte, and struck with a maker's mark, the iron hilt of characteristic form with basket formed of vertical fluted bars and panels with circular and heart-shaped piercings, incorporating an oval opening, fore-guards, wide scrolled rear quillon incised with a regimental (?) number and the spurious marks 'WA' over 'S', fluted pommel, and later leather-covered wire-bound wooden grip
