A Restauration ormolu astronomical month-going portico clock
Bettembost à Paris. Circa 1820
The finely cast portico case with ribbon and rosette mount to the entablature beneath the stepped top supported on plain ormolu columns, the rectangular base with stylised foliate moulding and on large milled bun feet the white enamel Roman chapter disc within an ormolu bezel cast with egg-and-dart decoration, the dial with blued moon hands and counterpoised sweep centre seconds hand, the enamelled rolling moonphase calibrated with its age, signed Bettembost à Paris, subsidiary skeletonised white enamel calendar rings below with blued steel hands indicating the month, day of week with its relative sign and date, the movement with circular plates and four back-pinned pillars, pin-wheel escapement mounted on the backplate with steel knife-edge suspended gridiron pendulum, countwheel strike on bell
