A Victorian brass skeleton timepiece with chronometer escapement
Attributed to Evans, Handsworth. Circa 1870
The openwork frames joined by tapering double-screwed pillars, on stepped oval white marble plinth raised on bun feet and under glass dome, the silvered chapter ring with crenellated divisions and Roman cartouche chapters, with skeletonised subsidiary seconds ring at XII, blued steel trefoil hands, the single chain fusee movement with high count train and wheels with six crossings, maintaining power, the chronometer escapement with blued steel helical hairspring and bimetallic balance with heat compensation weights
