Lot Essay

William Baker Crisp is reported as working between 1851-1881. A leading chronometer maker of the period, he was renowned for his work on experimental balances and was closely associated with fellow innovators such as Victor Kullberg, John Hartnup and William Shepherd. The present balance is a rare variant, based on Robert Molyneux's original design.
