The case with architectural pediment above a frieze mounted with later scrolling foliate gilt-metal mounts applied with semi-precious stones, the door with a deep concave moulded frame centred by a copper dial panel painted with a praying saint at an altar beneath a curved aperture displaying the revolving hours with the quarters pierced out above, the movement signed and dated Petrus Thomas Campanus Invetor Roma 1672 on gilt-brass cruciform frame securing the movement with the spring housed within the bell, the large countwheel spanning the circumference of the bell and behind that the going train great wheel terminating in a verge escapement now lacking the pendulum originally beating before the glazed aperture at the base of the door, the moulded base applied with later mounts and on later brass feet, the backboard with oil lamp tray and chimney flue with hinged metal cover on top of the case
