The hood with swan neck pediment with later frets and turned finials, trunk flanked by reeded half columns, the plinth with star inlay and on later skirting, the 12in. brass dial with floral scroll spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, matted centre with seconds disc and square date aperture, signed on a circular silvered plaque in the arch James Smith/LONDON, hands now black painted, the eight day five pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; associated, dial and movement circa 1780, case circa 1790 -- 83in. (211cm.) high
