Lot Essay

The Daniells made careful studies of the inhabitants of the towns and villages in both north and south India, noting variations in dress according to race and caste. 'Dubash' literally translates as 'two languages', and was the name given to interpreters employed by the British. The dress of the other servant identifies him as based in Calcutta.
