A BURMESE GREEN AND WHITE-GLAZED BOWL

With deep rounded sides rising from a tapering ribbed foot, the interior decorated with a flowerhead below foliate and scalloped bands, the exterior with a band of wavy vertical lines below a petal band, all in bright green on a white-glazed ground
6½in. (16.5cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

A number of these striking green-decorated wares, primarily shallow dishes, but all painted with different designs including birds, floral medallions and scrolling foliage, are illustrated by R. Brown, The Ceramics of Southeast Asia, Their Dating and Authentication, Oxford, 1988, pls. XLVIII a-c and XLIX a-d.
