A Lacquered Half-Mask formed as a mythical bird (Tengu Men)
Edo period (18th century)
Forged in two sections with a detachable beak and deep wrinkles on the cheeks, the chin with two odayori no kugi (pegs to hold the helmet cords), the surface lacquered with a mottled yellowish-brown lacquer, the interior gold lacquer; fitted with a three-lame solid-plate yodare kake (throat guard) lacquered to match and laced in blue with cross-knots in orange lacing
