A MEISSEN YELLOW-GROUND OCTAGONAL TEACUP AND SAUCER AND A CANTED SQUARE TEAPOT-STAND
Circa 1735, blue crossed swords marks, Dreher's / to both, gilder's 47. to all three pieces
The cup painted front and back with figures by the banks of a river, one side with a wagon being pulled by a team of horses across the flat of a hill at the right, a fortress at the left, the other side with a man on horseback, his servant walking at the right, two figures gazing across the water at the left, each reserved on the yellow-ground within an oblong irregular quatrefoil cartouche edged in gilt, the interior with a lone seated figure at the right of a rural landscape, a tree at the left, within paired iron-red circles, the saucer with a riverside scene of a man in black hat and iron-red cape gazing out at the rocks across the inlet, reserved within an elaborate rocaille cartouche enriched with purple foliate scrolls and sgraffito diaper pattern, both rims with a gilt Laub- und Bandelwerk; together with a canted square teapot stand en suite with the saucer
