A BYZANTINE GLAZED SGRAFFITO POTTERY BOWL
CIRCA 12TH CENTURY A.D.
The cream glazed interior incised with an eagle holding a bunch of grapes(?) in its beak, with similar in its claws and on its back, with marine encrustation, rim partially restored; two other similar shallow dishes, each glazed interior incised with a figure of an eagle and arabesque design, marine encrusted, 10¾ in. (27.4 cm.) diam. max.; and a fragmentary 'Tanagra' terracotta figure of a standing lady, draped with her right knee bent slightly forwards, she stands with projecting right arm placed on her hip (composed from two figures), 3rd-2nd Century B.C., 14 in. (35.8 cm.) high (4)
