A ROMAN RED JASPER MAGICAL INTAGLIO WITH HERAKLES AND THE LION
3RD CENTURY A.D.
Cut with figure of the hero wrestling with the Nemean lion, club behind him, the reverse inscribed with KKK, 1.8 x 1.4 cm., 1.9 cm. across inner hoop; and a Graeco-Egyptian haematite magical gem with Harpocrates, depicted seated on a lotus flower, facing to his right, his right hand held up in greeting, his left hand holding a lotus stalk, above his head a sun disk flanked by a star and crescent moon, the reverse engraved with eight Greek letters, 2nd-3rd Century A.D., 1.8 x 1.3 cm., 1.7 cm. across inner hoop, both in later swivel ring settings (2)
