Lot Essay

Mr. Quentin Crisp was also known as the Naked Civil Servant. An autobiography with this title was published and made into a film in 1976 when Quentin was sixty-eight. The book's title referred to the time spent in his youth posing in the nude at various state owned schools in England, when government employees were officially designated as 'civil servants'.
