Lot Essay

The canvas has been relined. The painting is presented in its massive original rectilinear frame. The canvas would appear to have been recently cleaned and the painting is ready to hang. Under ultra-violet light retouching to frame abrasion is visible at the lower edges, and some attention (a light wash?) may have been paid to the sky. Minor craquelure can been seen in places, for example the rock in the centre, but this appears stable and is not visually distracting. Generally, the picture appears to be good condition, overall.
