A late 18th/early 19th-Century fishkin-covered spherical globe case,
from the Correct Globe with NEW Discoveries from the plates of Hermann Moll -- 7.6cm. (3in.) diameter

The spherical wooden case is covered in black fishskin on the outside with two brass hooks and eyes. The opening edge is painted in red and the inside is applied with two sets of twelve unvarnished, hand-coloured engraved celestial gores and two polar calottes, laid to the celestial poles. The cartouche reads A Correct Globe with ye new Constellations of Dr Halley &c. The equatorial and equinoctial colure are graduated in degrees; the ecliptic is graduated in degrees with sigils but unnumbered. The constellations are depicted by mythical beasts and figures (two and a half gores and one polar calotte missing)
