Muromachi Period (14th Century)
Of square form with flush-fitting lid and rounded corners and edges, the exterior nashiji ground decorated in gold hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, nashiji, gold and silver kirikane and tin sheet inlay depicting seven fans decorated with willow, chrysanthemums, susuki [pampas grass], the interior similarly decorated with two fans under the lid and two others in the box with pine and bamboo, the base with sparse nashiji, pewter rims, old wear

This small box once formed part of a large set of lacquer utensils, but was probably later used independently in the tea- or incense-ceremonies.
