FIRST EDITIONS of this magnificent record of the palaces and residences of Prince Eugene of Savoy in and near Vienna and a charming supplementary work describing his menagerie. The superb plates delineate the work of the architect J.L. von Hildbrand, the interiors of Claude le Fort du Plessy and others, and the gardens and fountains of Dominique Girard. Throughout the scenes are enlivened by numerous elegantly dressed figures, promenading or in conversation. The scarce supplementary suite shows the exotic animals of Prince Eugene's menagerie, established at the Belvedere in 1716 on the model of that at Versailles. Berlin Kat. 2117 (both works); cf. Lipperheide Dc20 (?both works, but, in error, lists second work as part 'XI' of the first work); Nissen ZBI 2212 (second work only).
