2 parts in one volume, large 2° (663 x 500mm). Title, part-title, 15 double-page maps engraved by Ambroise Tardieu after M. Grivy, dated 1822-1826. (Some light spotting to preliminary leaves and final map.) Original half calf with marbled papered boards, titled in gilt on upper cover (rebacked in tan calf, retaining original morocco lettering piece). Provenance: sold in these rooms, 10 June 1983, lot 310, from the sale of Important Scientific Books from the Library of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Large and detailed maps of the coasts of Brasil, with instructions on how to navigate its seas, from surveys made in the years leading up to Brasil's independence. The work comprises material gathered from the hydrographic expedition of 1819 and 1820, led by Roussin, on La Bayadère and Le Favori. It was published by the Ministerie de la Marine et les Colonies, under M. le Cte de Chabrol de Crouzol. Borba de Moraes II, p.753; Sabin 73498.
