A NORTH ITALIAN PARCEL-GILT AND GREEN-DECORATED DEMI-LUNE COMMODE
19th century
The shaped and moulded Campan Green marble top above a guilloche decorated frieze, three bow-fronted panelled drawers carved with scrolling foliage and flower-heads between guilloche-carved rails, flanked by similarly divided cupboard doors enclosing a shelf each, the panelled uprights with further flower-heads and floral trailing and ending in leaf-wrapped turned tapering legs

Lot Essay

The finely detailed and polychrome-decorated applied carving of this commode follows the example of such celebrated Piedmontese craftsmen as Giuseppe Maria Bonzanigo (1745-1820), Francesco Tanadei, Giuseppe Marchino, Francesco Novaro and Francesco Bolgié, all of whom were working under the royal patronage of Vittorio Amedeo III on the numerous royal commissions for the residences of Stupinigi, Moncalieri, Venaria, Rivoli and most of all the Royal Palace in Turin.
