拍品專文

This dresser displays many characteristics of this part of the West Country including the polychrome decoration, the bowfronted shelves and the rounded bead mouldings to the front edge of the side planks. The shaped frieze below the cornice is also a common regional device (see also lot 15).

A very similar painted dresser is shown in the Newlyn School painting entitled Reading the Death of Queen Victoria by Stanhope Forbes, in Exeter Art Gallery.
