Lot Essay

Although just the head survived, it demonstates clearly monumentality for which the art of Koh Ker is known. Another innovation during this period is its relaxed and smiling facial expression. The unknown artist of the presented head introduced it here in a subtle way giving away to an almost enigmatic expression. The beautiful kiritamakuta, especially visible at the backside of the head, confirms the high workmanship during this period.
