AN UNUSUAL 19TH CENTURY UN-RIGGED CARVED WOOD AND METAL MODEL, POSSIBLY OF AN AMERICAN BARQUE, CIRCA 1875
with cut-away masts and bowsprit, carved and painted figurehead of a maiden in long flowing dress, bitts, brass deck rails, metal anchors with chains and anchor davits, capstans, bilge pump, rope coils, ventilators, bollards, companionways, covered hatches, gratings, life rings inscribed LIFE BUOY, glazed saloon lights with curtains, seven painted lifeboats with thwarts in davits, firebuckets, brass bell in belfry, binnacle with compass, brass helm, steering gear and other details. The carved hull with brass portholes, gilt foliate stern decoration and rudder is finished in black and white and mounted on two turned gilt columns with stepped blocks between on a display board within contemporary domed wood bound glazed cover (one lifeboat missing). Measurements overall -- 17¾ x 68in. (45 x 173cm.)
