Lot Essay

Dating this work to circa 1850, the vessel portrayed in it is probably the brigantine of this name built on Prince Edward Island (Canada) in 1849. Registered at 135 tons, she was British-owned and spent at least the first ten years of her life trading to the Mediterranean.
