Lot Essay

The felicitiously named Mary Lemon Fowler married the genre painter Samuel Edmund Waller, and exhibited her society portraits at both the Royal Academy and Grosvenor Gallery. 'Molly' was born Mary Ethelwyn on 18 February 1892, the eldest daughter of Sir Arthur Francis Pease, 1st Bt., and his wife Laura Matilda. Sir Arthur died in 1927 and was succeeded by his only son and first-born Sir Richard Arthur Pease, 2nd Bt.
