Lot Essay

Upon its exhibition at the Royal Academy in 1889, Cooper wrote of A warm October: 'I am glad to say I am the painter of [A warm October], as I now consider it the best of my meadow pictures. It was bought by Mr C. Bennett...he expressed his great satisfaction at possessing two such works of mine, and spoke kindly of the pleasure he felt they would give in his distant home'.

We are grateful to Kenneth Westwood for his help preparing this catalogue entry.
