TWO GEORGIAN OFFICER'S SABRES OF LIGHT CAVALRY TYPE
Circa 1800-15, the first by Durs Egg
The first with massive plain flat-sided blade (apparently shortened, some pitting), gilt-bronze stirrup hilt with beaded decoration, double langets, mounted on one side with an applied rose, and on the other with a lion-mask, also in gilt-bronze, wire-bound fishskin grip, and lion's head pommel, in its gilt-brass scabbard signed 'D. Egg, 132 Strand London' and fitted with two loose-rings (gilding worn throughout, scabbard dented, distorted and cracked); the second with hollow-ground blade with etched, blued and gilt decoration over more than half its length, plain brass stirrup hilt with rounded langets, backstrap with integral pommel, and cross-cut ivory grip (chipped), in its plain brass scabbard (worn, cracked and dented) with two loose-rings
