TWO SILVER-HILTED SMALL-SWORDS
The first with London silver hallmarks for 1762, the second circa 1765, probably German
The first with colichemarde blade of hollow triangular section (surface pitted), the hilt (loose) cast and chased in relief with martial and musical trophies and with associated pierced pommel, the grip bound with silver ribbon and plaited silver wire, silversmith's mark probably that of John Radborn (d. 1780); the second with tapering blade of flattened hexagonal section (rust patinated) retaining some etched decoration at the forte, the hilt entirely of silver, including the grip, cast and chased in relief with rococo motifs, and with boatshell guard
