TWO BRASS-HILTED SMALL-SWORDS
The first early 18th Century, the second late 17th Century, each probably English
The first with slender blade of stiff diamond section (some pitting), flattened and inlaid with noughts and crosses in brass on each side of the forte, the hilt retaining some gilding and lightly engraved with foliage, the arms formed as scrolled foliated tendrils, the asymmetrical double-shell with raised border, the grip bound with silvered twisted copper ribbon and wire; the second with earlier rapier blade (pitted), the hilt (worn) cast in relief with figures and foliage, and with plain associated pommel, the grip bound with twisted silver wire
