A SCOTTISH BASKET-HILTED BROADSWORD
Second quarter of the 18th Century
With flat tapering blade with three fullers running almost the full length of each face, fullered ricasso, characteristic iron guard of rounded bars framing incised solid panels pierced with circular holes and stylised hearts (minor damage), slender fore-guards, abbreviated rear quillon stamped with an 'S' (for Stirling), fluted pommel of flattened conical form punched with circles, spirally fluted wooden grip (old worm holes) with its original leather covering and brass ferrules (one split), and old cloth liner carrying a cord tassel
