A ROMAN BRONZE MEDUSA APPLIQUÉ
Circa 1st Century A.D.
The mask of the gorgon with a rayed diadem above two large wings in her curling hair, the feathers of the wings rendered by relief and incision, her gaze upturned with articulated lidded eyes, the open mouth downturned, the lips fleshy, her hair falling in thick ringlets on either side of her face, snakes knotted below her chin, iron pins through perforations on either side of her head (one preserved), iron pins also at the back
