Lot Essay

Adolph Vetter was a Viennese bibliophile, art historian and client of the Wiener Werkstätte.
Despite the magnificence of the Palais Stoclet and the enormity of the achievement it represented for the Wiener Werkstätte, Moderne Bauformen, a German periodical published in Stuttgart, was the only contemporary journal to give the commission extensive illustrated coverage. Separate offprints of the article were bound by the Wiener Werkstätte and made available to selected clients no doubt in the hope of attracting further commissions.
