A Staffordshire saltglaze named and dated teapot and cover

Of oval shape, the finial modelled as a swan with feathers highlighted in brown, decorated with moulded stiff-leaf motifs recessed into fluted panels and painted in blue and yellow glazes, centred by an oval cartouche painted with the intials L G above the date 1796, the reverse with an oval cartouche painted with a yellow flower, accompanied with a manuscript note Presented by George Mills to Miss Copeland on her twenty-first birthday by the special request of his late wife, July 13 1896 and on the reverse of the note Initials on tea-pot stand for Lattice Goodwin mother of Mrs Mills.
