An English ebonised and gilt-brass mounted quarter-chiming table clock, early 18th century and later
The case with brass handle to repoussé brass double basket top (later?), ball finials to the angles, with foliate cast mounts to upper side panels above breakarch glazed panels, conforming spandrels to the front door and with further gilt-brass mounts to the lower and side rails, on later brass bun feet, the 8in. wide brass dial with later mask and foliate spandrels and part foliate engraved borders to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with cross half hour and diamond half quarter hour markers, matted centre with mock pendulum (later?) and date apertures, original blued steel hands (restored), the arch with silvered later strike/silent and signature plaques, the latter spuriousy signed Tho. Tompion/&/Edw Banger/London, the eight day triple chain fusee movement with six ringed pillars and secured to the case with three turn catches, pivoted verge escapement, hour strike on later pork pie bell and restored quarter chimes on a nest of eight later bells, pull quarter repeat, the back plate with hatch engraved border and with foliate scrolls around a repeat signature, one dial foot cut down and moved; movement with adaptations and possibly associated to case -- 21½in. (54.5cm.) high
