A George I walnut longcase clock
The flat top hood with later sound frets flanking a moulded arch, with glazed side panels and inset columns, the rectangular trunk door with moulded frame and lined with feather banding, on stepped plinth with later skirting, the 12in. wide brass dial with scored line border and female mask and foliate spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour and diamond half quarter hour markers, the matted centre with silvered subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture with engraved inner border, blued steel hands, with later strike/silent lever above XII, the foliate scroll engraved arch with dolphin spandrels to silvered convex disc signed Claudius/Du Chesne/Londini (edge of arch reduced), the eight day five pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; dial and movement associated to case, circa 1725 -- 86in.
