ALBUM -- A 4° (336 x 280mm) album containing approximately 27 watercolours and drawings, mostly military and sporting subjects, all or most by William Mills (many lacking), bound in elaborate black morocco decorated in gilt and blind, the covers with a central cameo of a mythical figure surrounded by clouds and a sunburst in blind, gilt edges. Provenance: "This Book was sent by desire of William Mills 6th Lt. Cavalry - Madras - to his Mother - April 1845" (inscription on front free endpaper). One of the drawings is inscribed "the last pencilling of poor Mills 1845" suggesting the artist may have been lost in action.
