A Short Sword (Wakizashi) in Mounts (Koshirae)
Edo period (17th century), signed with two indistinct characters and Kanetaka
Shinogi-zukuri configuration with iori-mune back and torii-zori curvature with a chu-gissaki point; forged with an itame pattern with hints of a mokume pattern and a gunome midare tempered edge, the tip small and rounded; tang unshortened with two mekugi-ana and katte-sagari file marks
Koshirae comprising a black ishime lacquer saya mounted with metal kojiri and kurigata carved to simulate guri lacquer, and fitted with a shakudo nanako and gilt kozuka, indistinctly signed Judai ...eki and kogai decorated with dancer's accouterments; the hilt mounted with fuchi-gashira decorated to match the scabbard hardware and a pair of cloisonné enamel menuki of plum blossoms, the tsuba formed as a coiled halberd with gilt highlights, signed Bushu ju Masafusa

With a certificate for the koshirae issued by the Nihon Token Hozon Kai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Sword), dated 1997.10.12
