George Hepplewhite illustrates two lamps of this pattern in The Cabinet Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1788, pl.112.

Although notoriously difficult to date as the Hundi' lamp design enjoyed enduring popularity, an almost identical hanging-lamp, dated to the late 18th Century, is illustrated in C. Gilbert, Furniture at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall, Leeds, 1998, p.726, whilst another pair are at Nostell Priory, Yorkshire.
